Product Information

A superb new variety of Hypericum (St John's Wort), Hypericum 'Magical Innocence' will delight gardeners with its profusion of bright yellow flowers, with their sprays of long anthers and not forgetting the colourful berries!

'Magical Innocence' bursts into life in early spring with a flourish of dark green leaves that provide the perfect foil for its perfectly formed blooms that are followed by berries which change from yellow to salmon pink and then black in the autumn. Popular in flower arrangements, this hypericum is ideal for a sunny or part-shaded position, and because of its compact nature, makes the perfect specimen for a patio or balcony pot.

Bees and many other beneficial pollinating insects find the sunny flowers of Hypericum irresistible and you're guaranteed months of colour as it starts blooming in June and continues right through to September, with its berries appearing from August.

Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant. Reaching an ultimate height and spread of 80cm (2½).

Care Information

Planting Advice for Hypericum

  • Water your potted shrub well.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
  • Add a conditioner such as well rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot then refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Pruning Advice

  • Once established, Hypericum is low maintenance and needs little or no regular pruning. Flowers are produced at the ends of new growth, so prune back plants in early spring.
