Description

Bring late-season colour to your garden the staying power of Vitex 'Queen Bee'. From midsummer into early autumn, upright flower spikes keep coming, for a long-lasting lavender purple display.

The distinctive palmate foliage releases a lovely fragrance when touched, adding that extra sensory detail that makes a garden feel more alive. Plant it near a path or seating area to enjoy up close.

Growing to around 120cm tall and 100cm wide, 'Queen Bee' stays compact and rounded, so it suits smaller gardens, sunny borders and large patio pots beautifully. Once established, it copes well with heat and dry spells, provided it has free-draining soil.

The nectar-rich blooms are loved by bees, butterflies and beneficial insects. In colder areas, give it winter protection, especially while young.

Supplied as an established plant in a 2 litre pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips
  • Winter protection is important in colder parts of the UK.
  • Apply a thick mulch around the base in autumn, keeping it away from the main stem. In cold weather, protect the top growth with horticultural fleece.
  • Move potted plants into a cold greenhouse, porch, conservatory or against a sheltered house wall during frost.
Care Information

On Arrival:

  • Unpack the plant as soon as it arrives and remove all packaging carefully.
  • Check the compost and water lightly if it feels dry.
  • Stand the plant somewhere bright and sheltered for a day or two before planting.
  • If the plant has been in transit, allow it to settle before placing it in strong sun or exposed wind.

To Plant:

  • Plant in a sunny, sheltered position, ideally against a warm wall or in a protected border.
  • Choose free-draining soil, as Vitex dislikes sitting in cold, wet ground.
  • Dig a hole slightly wider than the 2L nursery pot and loosen the soil at the base.
  • Remove the plant from its pot, place it at the same depth as it was growing, then backfill and firm gently.
  • Water well after planting to help the roots settle.

Ongoing Care

  • Water regularly during the first growing season while the plant establishes.
  • Once established, it copes well with dry spells, but water during prolonged hot weather.
  • Feed in spring with a general-purpose slow-release fertiliser.
  • Trim lightly in spring to remove any dead or damaged growth and keep a neat shape.
  • Remove faded flower stems after blooming if a tidier look is preferred.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
