Product Information

Be enthralled by the delightful large, dark red double flowers of the ‘Femme Fatale’ evergreen Camellia that not only looks beautiful but remains impressive throughout the year.

The headline flowers with scores of overlapping and passionate red petals appear early and upright, from February to April to mark the end of winter and the start of brighter, warmer days.

This bushy plant boasts dark, rich bronze foliage when young, before taking on even darker speckling and eventually settling with a red bronze-tinged colouring and a waxy appearance, offering a certain air of class and luxury.

Perfect for more-or-less any garden, the blooms of this Camellia look outstanding, whether planted as a solo piece in a pot or container, or alongside others in a mixed border or bed, while also usefully remaining smaller than other varieties to be perfect even for dainty spaces.

What’s more, this fully hardy shrub does not require hours upon hours of pruning and maintenance to retain a beautiful look – ideal for beginner gardeners or those with little time to spare.

Supplied as an established plant in a 15cm pot, ready for planting.

Top Tips

Be sure to deadhead Camellias when the flowers appear to start fading. This will not boost flowering the following growing season, but will avoid an unsightly browning flower from ruining your display.

Care Information

  • For best results, plant in moist and well-drained, neutral, or acidic soil in a space that is partially shaded, with some shelter from chilling winds.
  • Plant in autumn when the soil is still warm. This will help roots to establish before the harsh winter conditions set in.
  • When planting multiple Camellia, space at least 3-5m apart to allow ample room to establish.
  • Prior to planting, prepare the ground by clearing away any weeds, where necessary, and digging over the area to prime for planting.

Watering

  • Camellias should be watered regularly when newly planted, particularly for the first 18 months or so.
  • Keep the soil moist, checking if the soil is dry at a depth of roughly 10cm. If this soil is dry, then water the plant well.
