Product Information

Introduce an evergreen beauty to your garden, this 'Pineapple Guava' shrub offers year-round foliage interest, with flamboyant flowers in late spring.

This shrub grows impressively, up to a height and spread just short of 2m in maturity, with rich green leaves. Transition the tail end of spring into summer days with unique sorbet-pink and ice-white flowers, which are rich in sweet nectar to attract pollinators.

Plus, it's not just about the flowers and foliage, as autumn can occassionally see green egg-shaped fruits emerge on the plant. These fruits are very similiar to kiwi, with succulent flesh and a tropical taste, but smoother in appearance. Either sample the fruit fresh from the shrub or bake them into a unique pie or crumble for the dinner table.

Very easy to grow and particularly well-suited to life in a big patio pot or planter. Despite originating from South America, this variety will still grow reliably in your UK garden, and is hardy to withstand conditions down to -5C, only requiring some winter protection when a bitter cold spell is forecast.

Supplied as an established plant in a 2L pot, ready to plant. Please note, at certain times of this year this may be supplied in a 3L pot.

Planting Advice for your Acca sellowiana

  • If planting outside, choose a sheltered site that is protected from cold winds.
  • Water your potted plant well.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and three times wider than the nursery pot.
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare:

  • Plants can withstand temperatures down to -5C so are hardy through most of the UK.
  • This may suffer damage in harsh winters in cold conditions, so we recommend if your garden is exposed to grow in a greenhouse or conservatory over winter.
  • Plants are self-fertile but produces heavier fruiting when cross-pollinated.
  • For a better chance of fruit, where temperatures fall below 5C, grow in cool greenhouse or conservatory (plants need cool but not freezing winter temperatures).

Pruning Advice:

  • This shrub responds well to pruning and can be shaped easily to compliment your garden.
