Product Information

An exotic shrub with evergreen arching branches and yellow bottlebrush blooms, loved by pollinators and looking a treat in your favourite patio pot.

This Callistemon stretches upwards with poker-like flowers in a bright yellow shade, to really draw the eye across a long period, from early spring to summer.

Flowers standout remarkably from narrow foliage that not only remains full of colour through the year, but also releases an intoxicating aroma - try crushing a leaf by hand to enjoy a scent very similar to a freshly squeezed lemon.

Versatile, with dramatic foliage and blooms whether ‘Honeypot’ is used as an abstract addition to mixed shrub borders, gravel gardens, or even big containers for the patio – as it remains more compact than many other Callistemon.

What’s more, the long, elegant branches can either be left alone to form a bushy shrub or can be trained up a trellis to introduce height to the garden – particularly useful for covering unsightly walls with a splash of nature.

This attractive garden feature draws the attention of bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial insects. During cold winter conditions, be sure to cover this Callistemon with a fleece, or move those grown in pots to indoor shelter, such as a shed, porch, garage, or conservatory.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting.

  • Plant in mixed borders alongside other drought-tolerant plants, such as salvias and lavenders.

Care Information

Planting Advice:

  • Callistemon aren't generally fussy about soil. Poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.
  • Once established, plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.
  • Pot-grown Callistemon can be planted at any time of the year as long as the ground is not waterlogged or frozen.
  • Dig a square planting hole three times the width of the roots and mix in some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil remove and use this to re-fill once in place.
  • Prior to planting, soak this container-grown shrub thoroughly and allow it to drain.
  • Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots to help plants to establish quicker.
  • Place the plant in the hole at the same level as it was supplied in the nursery pot, then refill the hole, firm, and water well.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant.
  • Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.
  • Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.
  • Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.
  • A half-hardy shrub, give winter protection in colder, windier spots. A fleece cover and mulch will see them safely through the winter. Potted plants can be moved to a cool conservatory or greenhouse.

Pruning Advice:

  • Lightly prune after flowering to keep them under control, cutting just behind the spent bloom.
  • Callistemons in general don't like hard-pruning, so just remove spent flowerheads immediately after flowering, or trim new growth to maintain shape.
