Product Information

Suitable for all garden conditions, positions and temperatures, lavender is drought-tolerant, winter hardy and evergreen for year-long interest – perfect for anyone to grow and ideal to create a scented hedge or border
The silvery leaves and vibrant blooms are packed with a heady fragrance and will give you sweeping drifts of scent and colour from June until August.

The combination of showy flowers and familiar fragrance is an absolute magnet for bees, butterflies and other beneficial garden insects, which will have your garden buzzing with life, and the RHS recommends lavender as a ‘Plant for Pollinators’.

A Mediterranean native, Lavender is ideal for many situations, and all varieties are ideal in pots of light soil that drains well. Compact, hardy, drought-tolerant and incredibly easy to grow, lavenders are perfect for growing either side of doorways, pathways and entrances or for the patio where you’ll be able to catch their magnificent scent. Once established, lavender is extremely drought tolerant, easy to grow and needs very little maintenance - you can even cut the stems to make fragrant indoor dried displays.

Supplied as 12 plug plants, ready to be potted on or planted out into your garden. You’ll receive 3 each of the following:

Lavender 'Munstead' – Mauve flowers, reaching to a height and spread of 50 cm (20 in).

Lavender 'Rosea' – Delightful rose pink flowers, growing to a height and spread of 75 cm (30 in).

Top Tips

In late summer, clip the plants back lightly after the flowers have faded. Cut the stems back by a few inches, but not so far that the stems are bare of live foliage, and plants will then have time to produce new shoots before winter dormancy.

Care Information

  • Give your plugs a little attention on arrival - unpack them immediately, and either mist them or stand them in water for an hour - they may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.
  • When you're ready to pot on, use a good quality, multi-purpose compost, and fill 3-4in pots (7-10cm).
  • This drought-tolerant plant thrives in a sunny border, container, herb or gravel gardens.
  • Best planted between April and May when the soil is warming up, lavender thrives in most free-draining soils in full sun. Heavier soils should have some grit added to improve drainage and to open them up.
  • Space plants 90cm (3ft) apart, or if growing a hedge, 30cm (1ft) apart or, 45cm (18in) for larger cultivars.
  • Lavender can be grown in large pots, 30-40cm (1ft-16in) diameter, using a multipurpose or loam-based compost such as JI No 3, with some extra coarse grit, (up to 30%), to improve drainage, along with some controlled release fertiliser granules.
  • Ensure that the compost is regularly watered in summer, although for improved cold tolerance, kept on the dry side during winter by standing in a cold greenhouse or in the rain shadow of walls.
  • Trim lightly in mid to late summer, removing spent flower heads. Prune again in early spring, before flowers appear removing about 2.5cm of growth.
