Description

Five Outstanding Hostas Turn Difficult Shade Into A Luxurious Tapestry Of Gold, Blue, Lime And Crisp Variegation!

Where flowers can struggle, hostas come into their own. Their broad, beautifully shaped leaves fill shaded beds and borders with colour, texture and substance, creating a lush, established appearance that can otherwise take years to achieve.

Plant the varieties together for a layered foliage feature, or repeat them through different shady areas to tie your whole garden together. They are particularly effective beneath trees, beside ferns and other woodland plants, or grouped in generous patio pots where the individual leaf colours and textures can be appreciated close up.

These hardy perennials disappear below ground for winter before returning with fresh growth each spring. As the mounds develop, summer flower stems rise above the foliage, adding another level of interest to an already impressive display.

Supplied as a set of five bare root plants, ready to plant, including one each of the following varieties:

  • Hosta 'Guacamole' - Bright apple-green centre with dark green margins. One of the brightest foliage hostas. Large, fragrant flowers and superb contrast. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
  • Hosta 'Broad Band' - Blue-green leaves with a wide creamy-gold centre. Rich, luxurious colouring that changes through the season. Excellent premium variety.
  • Hosta 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd' - Heavy blue-grey foliage. Distinctive cupped leaves with exceptional texture. Adds an entirely different colour and form. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
  • Hosta 'Francee' - Dark green with crisp white margins. Clean, classic variegation that brightens shady borders. A long-time garden favourite. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
  • Hosta 'August Moon' - Solid golden-yellow foliage. Provides a bold splash of gold and contrasts beautifully with the blues and greens.
Top Tips
  • For best effect, plant where your hostas receive full sun for at least half of the day, but protect from midday sun. This will encourage the best leaf colour.
Care Information
  • Before planting, incorporate plenty of organic matter into the soil. Hostas prefer a rich, moisture retentive soil.
  • Create a hole just deep and wide enough for the roots. The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Keep plants well-watered and mulched with well-rotted organic matter.
  • Hostas can be grown in any container in a good, multi-purpose compost. Ensure that they are kept well-watered. Pot-grown hostas should be fed monthly with a general-purpose liquid feed.
  • Protect from slugs and snails.
  • If you find that your hosta is suffering from scorched leaves, move it to a shadier, more sheltered position.
  • Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
