Saponaria ocymoides 'Tumbling Ted'

On Arrival:

• Unpack the bare roots immediately.
• If they look a little dry after transit, soak them in lukewarm water for 2-3 hours to rehydrate.
• If you can't plant straight away, keep them in a cool, frost-free place wrapped in slightly damp newspaper, or pot them up temporarily in moist compost until ready.

How To Plant:

• Choose a sunny spot with free-draining soil. 'Tumbling Ted' hates sitting in soggy ground. Rockeries, wall edges, and containers are ideal.
• Prepare the soil by removing weeds and mixing in grit or sand if your ground is heavy.
• Dig a hole wide enough to spread the roots out comfortably. Position the crown (where the shoots meet the roots) just below soil level.
• Space plants around 30-40cm apart so they have room to spread and cascade.
• Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water well to settle them in.

Ongoing Care:

• Water regularly during the first season while roots establish. After that, Saponaria is drought tolerant and only needs watering in prolonged dry spells.
• Lightly trim after flowering to keep plants neat and encourage fresh growth. In autumn, cut back any dead or untidy stems to maintain shape.

If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
