Description

Plant and reap the rewards for years to come, with Muscari latifolium. Known as the Broad-Leaved Grape Hyacinth, it's incredibly easy to grow, reliable, and delivers a spring display that always gets comments.

This variety is truly special. Unlike the standard grape hyacinth, 'latifolium' produces stunning two-tone flower spikes, with deep violet at the base and bright blue at the tip. It’s bold, eye-catching and completely effortless. You pop the bulbs in during autumn, and by early spring, they're up and blooming without any coaxing. Create a generous drift along a path, under deciduous shrubs, or in a few statement pots by the front door.

Year after year they come back, naturalising effortlessly and quietly spreading to fill the gaps with vibrant spring colour. The flowers are also a magnet for early bees and pollinators, which makes them a valuable addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.

Whether you’re just starting out or already hooked on bulbs, Muscari latifolium is a treat. It’s robust, charming and needs very little from you in return.

Supplied as a set of 50 bulbs, size 6/7.

Top Tips
Plants return year after year, so plant them somewhere that you want them to stay.
Care Information

Planting Advice for Muscari:

  • Plant bulbs at twice the depth of the height of the bulb and four times their width apart. e.g. 5cm tall bulbs need to be planted 10cm below the surface of the ground and 20cm apart.
  • Please check the bag for any additional planting instructions.
  • They are fine to plant even if a little green growth is showing, they’ll just need a good watering when you plant them, and then only when the soil is dry.
  • Leave them in the ground once they die back – they’ll come back bigger and better each year.
  • While all the energy that a bulb needs in order to grow is stored in the bulb itself, they will do better if you feed them when in active green growth.
  • Plant in herbaceous borders, in pots, or leave in the ground to naturalise.
  • If planted in pots, be sure to water frequently and keep moist.

Aftercare for Muscari:

  • Grape hyacinths don’t need a lot of care; they're happy with natural rainfall and don’t need any form of fertiliser.
  • Allow the bulb leaves to die down naturally for a bigger display the following season.
  • Water freely through the summer.
  • If planted in pots be sure to water frequently and keep moist.

 Pruning your Muscari:

  • Cut off the old flower spikes as soon as the bloom period is over (unless you require the seeds).
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
