Product Information

Help your collection of vibrant summer blooms standout out even more by including this shimmering blue evergreen in your garden.

The blue-tinged green shade of the broad leaves is rather unique and particularly effective as a backdrop, cascading from a central clump with esteemed vigour, quite like the head of a pineapple perched on the ground, with outstretching side shoots developing with time.

Consider planting alongside summer-flowering perennials with yellow, orange, or red blooms to produce a truly eye-catching colour contrast.

Just like an ornamental grass, this Dianella produces showy leaves, which are evergreen and remain attractive regardless of the month. The plant is hardy, resistant to both heat and drought, and couldn’t be easier to grow, particularly once established when it can just be left alone!

You won’t be able to help yourself from gazing at the foliage – particularly when it catches the shine of the sun in a big, grouped planting scheme.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting.

Top Tips

Remove any dead leaves in the spring to make way for, and encourage, fresh growth.

Care Information

  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • When planting multiple plants at once, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look when in the ground.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out by pushing your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge, then pull. Do this in a couple of places to encourage the roots to spread out into the surrounding soil.
  • Next, use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the existing rootball. Aim to bury just the roots, leaving either the bases of the stems above ground when planted in summer, or the shoots if planted in spring.
  • Firm back around the soil using your hand for small clumps and your heel for larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil.
