Description

Chocolate-coloured tomatoes! Now that's certainly something unique for your summer crops this year! These warm, dusky fruit still boast that lip-smacking sweet flavour we all love of tomatoes, but are wrapped in a novelty colour.

The rich chocolate tones appear as the fruit ripens, shifting from green to deep brown. This latest trailing type is even prized for its fabulous cropping, producing more than fifty cherry sized fruits per plant across the long summer season.

With a brix level of 7, 'Rocola Chocolate' tomatoes are sweet, with a wonderfully juicy bite. The compact trailing habit makes it a standout choice for hanging baskets and tall containers, where stems cascade gracefully and create a lush, productive display.

Bring the success of homegrown tomatoes to within reach, even if you are limited on space in your garden. Imagine bowls of glossy, chocolate toned tomatoes ready for snacking, salads and summer dining. This variety gives that rewarding experience with remarkably little effort.

Top Tips
  • Feed with high Potash feed once first flowers appear and water well, especially when the fruits begin to develop.
  • Remove side shoots (shoots that grow where side branches join the main stem) for better crops
Care Information
  • Where to grow: Grow in growing bags or large pots or baskets in a sunny, sheltered position. Plants need 6-8 hours of sun a day.
  • When to grow: Plant as soon as possible, protecting from frost. Plants can be temporarily potted on in to 4in pots and planted out when all risk of frost has passed. Harvest from July depending on variety.

How to grow:

  • Tomatoes are best grown in a growing bags or large pots of compost where they can be fed and watered regularly. Plant up into their containers from April onwards.
  • Plant 2-3 plants per growing bag or 1 per pot, burying up to the first set of true leaves. Leggy plants can be buried deeper as the underground stems will root. Water in well and add your plant label.
  • Grow on for a couple of weeks before placing outside after hardening off. Cover plants with horticultural fleece on any unexpectedly cold nights.
  • As plants grow, keep them watered every day and feed once a week with a tomato feed.
  • Support the plants as they get taller with a stake (or leave them to tumble in a basket), tying in the stems.
  • Pick tomatoes when they are fully ripe.
