Description

Enjoy continuous summer fragrance with Philadelphus 'Pearls of Perfume'. A true breakthrough Mock Orange, and the first of its kind! Re-blooming with huge double flowers throughout the warmest months of the year. And it's compact too!

This flowering shrub was even shortlisted for RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2023. Blooming on both old and the current season's growth, 'Pearls of Perfume' doesn't just bring a fleeting fragrance to your garden, it lingers from late spring to the end of summer.

Imagine walking into your garden in late May, greeted by intoxicatingly fragrant, double white flowers, and still enjoying that same heady perfume months later in July and August. So unique, the flowers grow along the branches, rather than just at the very top, so each stem becomes cloaked in masses of pure white blooms.

Compact to around 1.2m tall, with upright, column-like growth of dark green leaves, 'Pearls of Perfume' is ideal for pots, containers and small gardens. It's fully hardy, easy to grow, and needs little more than a sunny or partially shaded spot and occasional pruning after flowering to stay in shape.

Top Tips
Prune once flowering comes to an end, removing one in four stems down to ground level. This will allow space for fresh growth in the new year.
Care Information
  • Philadelphus thrives in full sun or partial shade. A sunny position will encourage the best flowering, but it will still perform well in light shade.
  • This shrub prefers moist, well-drained soil but is adaptable to most garden conditions, including clay, loam, or sandy soil. Enrich poor soil with organic matter, like compost or well-rotted manure.
  • Make a hole twice as wide as the root ball to allow the roots room to establish.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and gently tease out some of the roots. Place it in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Fill the hole with soil, firming gently around the base to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly to help settle the soil.
  • Apply a 2-3cm layer of mulch (such as bark or compost) around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Ongoing Care:

  • Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, especially during the first year while it establishes in your garden.
  • Once mature, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering in dry spells.
  • Apply a general-purpose slow-release fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth and abundant blooms.
  • This fully hardy shrub requires no winter protection and will bounce back each year with a flush of new foliage and flowers.
  • Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, wildlife-friendly spaces, and patio containers, where its gorgeous scent can be fully appreciated.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
