Vriesea 'Electric'

• On arrival, remove the plant from its packaging and allow it to settle somewhere warm and bright. Check the compost and water lightly only if it feels dry to the touch. This plant does not like sitting in wet compost, so avoid soaking it straight away.

• Vriesea 'Electric' thrives in bright, indirect light. A position near a window with filtered light is ideal, but avoid strong direct sunshine as this can scorch the leaves and fade the colour of the bract.
• Warm rooms suit it best, with kitchens and bathrooms being excellent choices due to naturally higher humidity.

Care Advice:

• Water sparingly and only when the compost has dried slightly. During spring and summer this is usually once every 7-10 days, less often in winter.
• Always allow excess water to drain away and never let the pot sit in water. Use room temperature water where possible.
• As a rainforest plant, Vriesea enjoys humidity. Light misting every couple of days helps keep the foliage fresh, especially in centrally heated homes. Alternatively, place the pot near other houseplants to create a more humid microclimate.
• Feed lightly during the growing season from spring to late summer using a diluted houseplant feed. One feed every four to six weeks is sufficient. Do not overfeed, as bromeliads prefer modest nutrition.
• Keep the plant in temperatures above 15C year round. Avoid cold draughts, open windows in winter and placing it near radiators, which can dry the air too much.

If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
