Description

A dazzling houseplant with huge leaves veined with a scale-like pattern, a mix of bright, eye-catching colours and, thankfully, it is a breeze to care for.

Alocasia 'Pink Dragon' boasts thick, glossy, arrow-shaped leaves with crisp silvery veins and beautifully soft pink stems and purplish undersides. Grown in bright, filtered light it forms a strong, upright silhouette that slips into modern interiors with ease and, in time, can reach around 1.2m indoors.

Also known as the Dragon Scale Plant, due to the intricate patterns of the leaves. As with all alocasias, this is an ornamental plant, perfectly matching a modern or traditional house style.

Give it a free-draining mix, allow the top of the compost to start drying between waterings, and keep it away from harsh midday sun.

Supplied as an established plant in a 12cm pot, ready to display. The pictured ornamental pot is for illustrative purposes only, and is not included.

Please note: Alocasia plants are ornamental only. Keep them out of reach of pets and children, as the foliage can cause irritation if eaten.

Top Tips
Wipe the large leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and restore their natural shine. If a leaf yellows, it's usually an older one finishing its life cycle, simply trim it off. Repot only when the roots begin to outgrow the current pot, generally every year or two.
Care Information
  • When your plant arrives - Carefully unpack your Alocasia as soon as possible and remove any packaging around the pot or foliage. If the compost feels dry to the touch, give it a light drink of water and allow any excess to drain away before placing it in position. Avoid leaving it sitting in water, as Alocasia roots dislike being soggy.
  • Where to place it - Choose a warm, bright spot with plenty of filtered light. A bright room with indirect sunlight is ideal. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may cause the stems to stretch. East or north-facing rooms tend to suit it best, or a few feet back from a sunny window in a south-facing room. Keep it away from cold draughts, radiators or underfloor heating vents, which can stress the foliage.
  • Displaying your plant - This houseplant looks superb in a decorative pot cover, check out our full range of indoor pot covers, you'll find plenty to instantly elevate the look and tie it neatly into your home décor. Choose a cover one size larger than the 12cm growing pot to allow easy removal for watering and drainage.
  • Watering and humidity - Water when the top 2-3cm of compost feels dry. Pour water evenly across the surface, then allow any excess to drain before returning the plant to its cover pot. Avoid overwatering; Alocasia prefers a consistent level of moisture but never a wet root ball. These tropical plants love humidity, so lightly mist the leaves every few days or group it with other houseplants to maintain moisture in the air.
