Nobile Dendrobiums are among the most popular and the easiest orchids to grow, and their showy flowers makes them magnificent specimen houseplants.
This stunning orchid produces exotic, pure-white blooms in abundance on strong stems which will last for weeks on end. Even when the flowers finish, the fleshy evergreen leaves will add colour and life to your home, perfect on a windowsill or in a sunny conservatory, orchids make wonderful house plants.
Delivered in full flower, it will make a superb decorative plant for rooms at Christmas time, but will then re-flower to enjoy throughout the year.
Easy to care for, simply water sparingly when in bloom and give it a sunny spot to call home. After flowering, leave the main stems intact and place in a cool place hardly watering at all. As new flowers emerge increase watering and feed, moving back to sun.
Delivered as a potted plant in 12cm pot where it can stay for a year or more as Dendrobium do best when roots are restricted.
Feeding
Too much nitrogen will inhibit blooms, so use fertilizers with a low percentage of nitrogen and stop application of any fertilizer in the first part of August.
Pruning
The small flower stems will fall with the flowers, and the main stems (pseudobulbs) should not be cut.
Watering
When temperatures begin to rise in the spring, gradually start watering your orchid, using rainwater or distilled water.
In the summer, water almost every day to keep the plant from drying out, although allow it to drain - roots dislike sitting in water.
When temperatures begin to fall in September, gradually reduce watering. When night temperature falls below 50 F (10C), water only enough to keep the canes from shriveling - around once a week.
When night temperatures fall below (5C), keep the plants dry.
