Description

Be one of the first to know spring has arrived with the bright punches of colour provided by these English gardening classic Aconites.

We all know Snowdrops herald the arrival of the spring season and are indicators that winter days are behind us, but Aconites also appear at the same time, just like bright yellow stars emerging from the soil around February or March.

Create something a little bit different for your early season spectacle by planting this variety alongside bright Snowdrops, forming a mix of shades as they bloom alongside one-another in harmony.

Once planted, they will die back this season, and emerge stronger and better each February, slowly spreading out to gently cover small areas. These bulbs are supplied ‘in the green’, therefore have been lifted while still in active growth and typically in leaf, ready to be replanted on arrival.

Top Tips
Leave aconites undisturbed once planted. They dislike being moved and reward patience with stronger displays every year. This is a hardy variety, so there's no need to lift bulbs for protection over the colder months.
Care Information
  • These English Aconites are supplied 'in the green', meaning they have been lifted while actively growing, usually with leaves and sometimes flowers already visible.
  • Plant them as soon as possible after delivery. Do not allow the roots to dry out. If planting is delayed by a day or two, keep them cool and shaded, with the roots lightly moist.

How To Plant:

  • Plant aconites with the roots spread out naturally in the soil.
  • They are ideal for planting in borders, under deciduous trees, in lawns or naturalised areas where they can spread gently over time. Firm the soil around them after planting.

Ongoing Care:

  • Water well after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Keep the ground lightly moist while they establish, especially in dry spells. Once settled, aconites rarely need additional watering.
  • Do not cut back the foliage while it is green. The leaves feed the bulb for next year's display. Once the foliage turns yellow and dies back naturally, it can be gently removed by hand.
  • Aconites are fully hardy and need no winter protection. Each year they will emerge early in the spring season, usually from February, flowering before many other plants. Over time, they will slowly spread to form cheerful yellow carpets.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
