Product Information

Summer colour from the tail end of spring until frosts are threatening to break through. This excellent Clematis collection offers big outstanding blooms, year after year.

As bona fide summer garden staples, Clematis are the go-to climbers for many experienced gardeners, and we’ve matched three exceptional varieties to offer as many months of summer flowers as possible.

Starting with style from as early as May with Clematis ‘The President’, with rich violet purple-blue sepals, silver on the reverse, and pink and deep red stamens, combining for an eye-catching colour mix rarely seen elsewhere.

Another vigorous climber is Clematis ‘Madame Julia Correvon’, which bursts to life with blooms from the middle of summer until the end. Dark red star-shaped flowers emerge across the plant for a dramatic look that you can’t help but stare at.

Despite being the ‘late’ bloomer of the lot, you’ll only be waiting until June to see the mid-to-large flowers of Clematis ’Comtesse De Bouchard’, with mauve-pink petals that surround creamy yellow stamens.

Each variety grows at a good rate for repeat enjoyment year on year, just be sure to plant them somewhere they can ramble away – such an unsightly wall or an old tree stump. What’s more, all three of these Clematis proudly hold the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, so offer assured garden performances and are suitable for gardeners at every level of experience.

Supplied as a set of three established plants in 9cm pots, including one of each named variety, ready for planting.

Top Tips

Once new growth appears on each plant, pinch out young developing shoots to a lower bud to promote further branching.

Care Information

  • Feed in with a general-purpose feed, avoiding the stems.
  • Mulch immediately afterwards with organic matter such as well-rotted manure, leafmould, or garden compost.
  • Water regularly during periods of dry weather in the first few seasons after planting, especially for container plants. Clematis in pots should be given a liquid feed through the summer and early autumn.
  • Prune in late winter or early spring and again after the first flush of flowers to maintain a framework of old wood.
  • We recommend cutting your clematis back to 30cm the first spring after planting to encourage multiple stems which can then be tied it to create the framework for future growth.
