Description

One of the best and easiest Acers to grow in the garden, remaining neat and compact to perfectly suit a decorative pot or border of a smaller garden.

The foliage is eye-catching, emerging in a rich shade of purple to brownish red, holding firm through summer before transitioning to a brighter red for autumn.

Leaves are delicate and lacy in appearance, yet this variety is very hardy, withstanding freezing winter temperatures. Truly versatile, perfectly suiting a Japanese-inspired Oriental Garden or rockery.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

A thoughtful gift idea for a loved one – and we even do the wrapping for you, in a brown hessian bag with a green fabric bow.

Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, gift wrapped and ready to plant.

Top Tips
  • Acers generally do not need pruning, just remove any branches that are dead or damaged.
  • Care Information

Planting Advice for your Acer palmatum 'Garnet':

    • If your soil is slightly acidic, then you have the perfect conditions to grow Japanese maples - however do not worry if you have not as most can be grown in other soils as long as they are not wet, dry or very alkaline.
    • If growing in a pot, use a 50/50 mix of ericaceous and multipurpose compost if you can - although again don't worry overly about this.
    • If planting in the garden, prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork, incorporating organic matter as needed to improve moisture retention and condition.
    • Plant your Acer so that the top of the root ball is just slightly below ground level.
    • Fill the planting hole with soil and heel in well. Water well.

    Aftercare:

    • Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated as long as the plant is watered well.
    • Avoid exposed places as leaves can suffer with windburn (scorch), especially if the plant is dry.
    • Allow your Japanese Maple to get used to a whole day in the sun by starting it off in the shade, then standing it in its final sunny spot (in pot or in the garden soil) for one hour longer every day for a week.
    • Water regularly and deeply.
    • Feed with our specialist Acer feed.
    • Mulch every couple of years with well-rotted garden compost or well-rotted manure or leaf mould.
    Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
