Description

Now this is a hydrangea with real presence. Hydrangea 'Velvet and Lace' brings a richness and elegance that's unlike anything else in the summer garden. With its lacecap blooms framed by velvety petals, it delivers a luxurious look that transforms borders and patios into show gardens.

The flowers are a spectacle in themselves. Broad lacecap heads where the central fertile florets are surrounded by larger, petal-like bracts that glow with colour. As the season progresses, the shades shift and deepen, giving you a display that evolves week by week. It's this ability to change and surprise that makes 'Velvet and Lace' such a captivating addition.

Hardy and dependable, this hydrangea comes back bigger and stronger each year.

Blooming from midsummer into autumn, it provides colour when many other plants are fading, giving you months of pleasure. Even in winter, the dried flower heads add structure and interest, especially with a touch of frost on them.

It’s also versatile. While it thrives in borders, it grows just as happily in large containers, where its blooms can be appreciated up close. The plant is easy to grow, requiring little beyond moist but well-drained soil, and it is fully hardy in UK gardens. Once planted, it simply gets on with the job of delighting you season after season.

Supplied as an established plant in a 19cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips

Hydrangeas love to be kept well watered, and will produce bigger, glossier, more substantial leaves when provided with regular moisture.

Try to use rainwater to water hydrangeas, since mains hard water can affect the flower colour.

Care Information
  • This plant is at its best in most soil as long as it is well drained, in sun or partial shade. The more sun the plant gets, the better the flower colour.
  • A moisture-loving plant, remember to water regularly and deeply.
  • Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so it’s advisable to protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
  • Pruning is generally best carried out early spring. A general tidy up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
  • As Hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, cut out 1 or 2 of the oldest stems, in spring, at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.

Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
