Product Information

This superb Eucalyptus has been grown in bush form to make it the perfect evergreen addition to your garden, and a fast grower that’s ideal for the back of a border or as a specimen in a large pot.

Looking spectacular all year round with its unusual foliage colour, Eucalyptus us arguably at its best in spring and summer when new growth is appearing. The leaves emerge in a light grey-green colour before changing to become more blue with a waxy patina, and with naturally peeling grey bark, nothing else looks quite like it!

Famous for its peppermint-like fragrance, the aromatic foliage gives off its familiar, refreshing scent when bruised and makes a fantastic, long lasting addition to cut flower arrangements where the unique colour brings an exotic touch.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Growing best in full sun or partial shade, Eucalyptus is extremely hardy and undemanding to care for, requiring nothing more than pruning in early spring to maintain its bushy shape, and benefitting from being cut back hard every few years.

Supplied as an established plant in 14cm post, ready for planting.

Top Tips

Cut back hard every few years to maintain the bushy shape.

Care Information

Eucalyptus is best grown in full sun with shelter from strong winds when they are young.

Pot-grown plants can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.

Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the plant is in place.

Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain. Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots

Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.

Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot, then refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling). Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball. Water well.

Pruning

  • Prune in early spring to maintain the shape.
  • In the second or third spring, cut back to 60-90cm (2-3ft) from the ground for pollards or 5-7.5cm (2-3in) for coppiced plants.
  • Pinch sideshoots to encourage further branching.
  • In subsequent years, cut back annually or every few years to the previous stubs.
  • Apply a balanced general-purpose fertiliser each spring.
