Product Information

Be the envy of all who see this rather special hydrangea taking pride of place in your garden with its frilly, ruffled white flowers looking like the skirt of a Flamenco dancer edged in scarlet.

Hydrangea ‘Magical Flamenco’ certainly demands your attention with its delightful mop-head, picotee blooms enhanced by its deep green leaves.

As the season progresses the ruffled flowers mature to a soft green colour with red edges and are perfect for cutting and bringing in to your home. The flower heads are bang on trend at the moment as cut flowers for the home and also preserve well making them ideal for dried, winter displays.

With an exceptionally long flowering period and a range of beautiful, changing flower colours, hydrangeas remain a firm favourite with our customers, being suitable for growing in flower beds or in borders. They're one of the easiest shrubs to grow, just needing regular watering to keep them at their best - so they're an ideal choice if you are new to gardening or have very little time to achieve spectacular results.

Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, you can keep your hydrangea as a houseplant when in bloom, and you can transfer it back outside when the flower heads fade.

Top Tips

To extend the seasonal interest leave some flower heads on the plants over winter where they look gorgeous covered with frost, and of course they'll provide shelter for overwintering wildlife.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Hydrangea macrophylla 'Magical Flamenco'

  • March, October and November are the best months for planting hydrangeas.
  • Hydrangeas do best in a clay-like, fertile soil, although they'll do well in most soils as long as it is well drained, in sun or part shade. The more sun the plant gets, the better the flower colour.
  • Just plant in position, water well, and add a general-purpose fertiliser or our own specialist hydrangea feed - they’ll burst into growth and flower profusely all summer!

Aftercare Advice for your Magical Flamenco hydrangea

  • Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely.
  • Another way to prevent damage is to leave flowering stems in place until spring.
  • Hydrangeas are moisture-loving plants, so remember to water regularly and deeply especially for container plants.

Pruning Advice for Hydrangea macrophylla

  • Pruning is generally best carried out early spring. A general tidy up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
  • As Hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, cut out 1 or 2 of the oldest stems, in spring, at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.
