Top Tips

  • Plant the base of the stem 5cm below the soil surface and provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from the wind.

Care Information

  • Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, with shelter from the wind. In containers, use a John Innes No 3 based compost.
  • To plant, firstly water your potted plant well.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out some of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot then refill the hole with the earth removed.
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well before adding a mulch around the base of the plant.
  • Water fuchsia plants sufficiently to keep the compost moist but not waterlogged and do not leave plants standing in water Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers.
  • Feed regularly with a high potash fertiliser.
  • Fuchsias prefer shade for the hottest part of the day.
