Product Information

One of the easiest ways to introduce waves of intense red shades to your garden for months.

This outstanding collection features three different plants that erupt with fiery colours. Including two shrubs and an ornamental grass variety, this bountiful set boasts excellent shades, as well as strong and reliable plants.

Enjoy year-round interest from the shrubs, with full and healthy shows of foliage and colour-changing leaves.

Witness three seasons of red shades across the leaves at different points of the year. The leaves of Photinia ‘Little Red Robin’ are red in spring, before Imperata ‘Red Baron’ turn cranberry red in summer, then an autumnal rich burgundy, followed by deep red foliage on Nandina ‘Fire Power’ in the cold winter.

Supplied as three established plants in 2L pots, ready for planting.

  • Photinia ‘Little Red Robin’ 2L – A compact evergreen shrub with glossy, bright red leaves. The foliage changes through shades of oranges, purples, and bronzes, before maturing to a deep dark green in winter. Small white flowers grow in spring, occasionally followed by red fruits. The most impressive display can be seen in the spring, as the foliage is a bright blood red.
  • Nandina ‘Fire Power’ 2L – Even more year-round beauty can be seen on the remarkable Nandina ‘Fire Power’. This hardy shrub produces green foliage that evolves to a deep red in the winter. In summer, cute clusters of white flowers can be seen, followed by autumnal red berries.
  • Imperata ‘Red Baron’ 2L – Join the wave of gardeners growing beautiful ornamental grasses with this superb variety. Commonly known as Blood Grass, this plant starts to impress in spring with robust, upright green blades which, in summer, turn cranberry red, followed by a luxurious burgundy in autumn.
Around June and August, clusters of small, silver flowers appear. As this is a deciduous grass, the foliage will die back in winter, and when cut back around February will make way for new shoots in March.

For full displays with the best colour possible, plant these varieties in a position with plenty of sun.

Care Information

Caring for Photinia ‘Little Red Robin –

  • Your Photinia should be trimmed in spring and summer or can be left informal, just being trimmed down when needed.
  • Photinia prefers a sunny site but will tolerate partial shade and although frost hardy young plants should be protected in winter until established.
  • When planting, space approx. 0.75-1m apart, water the potted plant well. Dig a hole a little deeper and 3x wider than the nursery pot. Remove the plant from the pot and tease out some roots, place in the hole, then refill with the earth removed. Firm the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball, then water well.

Caring for Nandina ‘Fire Power’

  • Nandina prefers acid to neutral soil, especially if it is rich in organic matter and kept regularly watered.
  • Plants hate sitting in wet soil, so will benefit from added grit to the planting hole if your soil is heavy.
  • Plant in full sun if you want the best colour, however Nandina will also perform well in light shade.
  • No pruning is required, although you may want to remove any stems that have become long and leggy.

Caring for Imperata ‘Red Baron’

  • To plant, knock out your plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.
the aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil.
