Description

An adorable 'Little Rosie' Lilac standard! Do you love the sweet fragrance of a lilac but haven't the space to grow one? This is the answer! What sets 'Little Rosie' aside from the rest is its shorter branches, which create a tight, compact plant, ideal for those smaller garden spots or containers - you're sure to have space for it!

In fact, this standard will only grow to an easily manageable 100cm tall across half a decade, so it isn't a variety you need to worry about! A stylish head of foliage has been fashioned to top a clean, branchless stem.

Perfumed dark cherry-pink flowers emerge in mid to late spring, stretching across darker leaves than most close relatives. Bring that unbeatable Lilac fragrance to the patio, decking, or balcony areas of your garden so you can enjoy it even up close and personally.

The foliage looks superb through the summer and autumn months and creates a visual spectacle when lit up by the springtime flowers.

Supplied as established standards, already 90cm tall, ready to plant.

Top Tips
Pot-grown lilacs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. If in doubt, err towards spring but remember to keep pots well-watered so that the soil does not dry out.
Care Information
  • Grow lilac plants in fertile, well drained soil in full sun.
  • Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established.
  • Lilacs can be pruned in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping to retain the standard form and height. In mid-summer, faded flowers can be removed from the plants.
  • After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the lilac.

To Plant:

  • These roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once in place.
  • We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.
  • Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.
  • Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
