Enjoy garden interest in abundance with this hardy and reliable hedge as a show of fragrant white flowers, healthy light green leaves, and inky black berries emerge across the seasons.
Also known as Hagberry, these plants are often grown as trees, but make outstanding neat and structural hedgerows.
The show of beauty begins in spring, when white flowers on short spikes erupt with an attractive almond-like perfume. Moving into autumn, dark fruits develop from flowers along eye-catching red stems.
What’s more, this hedge is recommended by the RHS as a ‘Plant for Pollinators’, thanks to the nectar-rich flowers that draw the attention of bees with early-season pollen, while birds and smaller garden mammals love the sweet, autumnal berries.
Bird Cherry hedges grow well in most soil types, in either full sun or partial shade, but will not tolerate exposed windy sites, coastal conditions, or fully shaded areas.
Growing at a rate of 20-40cm per year, it is easy to keep these hedges well-shaped and uniform, particularly when attempting to reach a manageable height of 4m.
Supplied as a bare root hedge, 60-90cm tall, ready for planting.
