Product Information

If you love apples, but they don’t like you, then Apple ‘Santana’ is the answer! This variety has been specially developed to be hypoallergenic.

It has particularly low levels of the naturally occurring compounds that may cause allergic reactions in some people. Indeed, medical researchers found that 75% of people with an apple allergy could eat ‘Santana’ with no negative effects.

Santana is a modern red dessert apple. The large fruits have a nicely balanced flavour, with juicy flesh and a good crunch. Santana is delicately perfumed - it really does smell like it tastes!

Good yields of large dessert apple can be harvested in September and may be stored into October if necessary.

Supplied as a 1.1-1.5m bare root.

Care Information

  • Keep well-watered, and if growing in a pot, use a good quality, soil-based compost.
  • Add Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi to the roots when planting to help establish your tree more quickly.
  • Place your tree in a sunny position for the best crops.
  • Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as blood, fish and bone, in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture.
  • Water regularly, and don't let the soil dry out if planted in pots.
  • Established trees don't require radical pruning - just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches in late winter. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other.
