Product Information

Galanthus nivalis is one of the first flowers to poke its head above ground in winter through to early spring. These hardy dwarf perennials, with delicately fragrant, nodding, snow-white blooms bursting open from narrow, dark grey-green stems, are one of the most wonderful sights in the winter months.

They love the dappled shade under trees and look even better when planted in drifts through grass, where they will naturalise easily and increase in number year after year. Alternatively, plant in groups in the fronts of borders and beds, or underplant amongst roses and shrubs. At a time when little else is in flower, they also make an attractive feature in rock gardens and pots.

An eternal favourite and fully deserving of its RHS Award of Garden Merit, this versatile snowdrop is suitable for any size of garden and will thrive in exposed or sheltered positions.

Supplied as a pack of 30 bulbs for planting in the autumn, they will flower from January to March the following year, and your displays will get better every year!

Top Tips

  • Where bulbs are planted in grass, do not cut the grass until after the leaves have died back, a few weeks after flowering.
  • Divide every few years to split large clumps by lifting while the leaves are still green and break into smaller clumps for replanting.

Care Information

  • Plant bulbs 10 cm deep in fertile, moist but well drained soil that will not dry out in summer.
  • Snowdrops thrive in partial shade, either in an exposed or sheltered position.
  • They are fine to plant even if a little green growth is showing, they'll just need a good watering when you plant them, and then only when the soil is dry.
  • Leave them in the ground once they die back - they'll come back bigger and better each year.
  • While all the energy that a bulb needs in order to grow is stored in the bulb itself, they will do better if you feed them when in active green growth.
  • Plant in moist borders and leave in the ground to naturalise.
  • If planted in pots be sure to water frequently and keep moist.
