Although a native of Australia this striking and unusual shrub is hardy down to -10C so will thrive in your garden especially if you give it a nice sunny position. The spiky mid green leaves are evergreen so the plant will provide year round interest. In late spring the plant becomes smothered in blood red claw shaped flowers - a superb display which lasts up to 3 months!
This is a lovely plant for a large pot or south facing border and also makes a fascinating addition to a mixed hedge. Best in soils that are free draining and not that rich. In a pot add grit or sand to the compost to encourage drainage.
