Plant of the Month – December

Red Amaryllis

Your plant of the month for December is an absolute knockout beauty! The Red Amaryllis is known as THE Christmas time house plant.

Ready to make your yuletide celebrations even more special, this spectacular Amaryllis is as red as they come – just like the famous suit of Santa!

Whether potting one up and growing it for yourself and giving it away to a loved one as a festive gift, this superb flower is one of our favourites.

Large bulbs erupt with a strong stem, each holding either three or four red trumpet blooms.

Keep this remarkable flower in mind for next year’s festive display, as if you plant it in October, impressive blooms will emerge ready for the big day!

A perfect solution for dressing up your room, the long strong Amaryllis stem is perfect for cutting for the vase – this could be a new tradition in your home!

Ready to grow your own Red Amaryllis?

Bulbs are supplied ready to sprout leaves early and burst into flower in no time – just by watering and offering a little care.

If the bulb is planted in December and kept in a warm room, they will bloom in 6-8 weeks and provide interest throughout as the stems steadily emerge and blooms unfurl.

So easy to grow, just plant into bulb compost with the top third of the bulb just above the compost, keep it well-watered, but not damp, and watch it grow!

Over the summer, when the flowers have been removed, place outside in a sunny sheltered position as a foliage plant to enjoy it for longer.
