YouGarden TV presenter Shaun Ryan introduces Rose ‘You Are My Sunshine’, a beautiful Floribunda rose that’ll impress for years to come:
“I have got the most beautiful rose. It is called ‘You Are My Sunshine’. I think it describes it perfectly.
“It’s been bred by Harkness. I’ll just tell you a little bit about Harkness Roses. They are superb when it comes to breeding. They’ve been breeding roses since 1879, that’s over 145 years. They have won over 25 Gold Awards at the Chelsea Flower Show.
“And whichever Harkness rose you buy from YouGarden, it will always be disease resistant. It will always be repeat flowering. It will always have a stunning fragrance and it will always be easy to look after. And this rose is no exception.
“Now it’s what we call a Floribunda rose. And that’s wonderful. That means you’re gonna get several flowers all bunched together and each one of those is gonna be this absolutely perfect canary yellow.
“Look at that rose, it is absolute perfection, isn’t it? Now it also has a stunning fragrance, a medium to strong fragrance, so really, really sweet with a little bit of maybe fruitiness in there as well.
“It’s a rose that will grow to about 1m, maybe 1.2m, so ideal for pots and containers, but great in your beds and borders as well. In terms of position, it would like as much sun as possible. So if you can put it in full sun for at least six hours a day, it would really appreciate that. Well drained soil as well. If you are putting it in a pot, please use our Premium Professional Compost.
“But it’s a rose that we’ll deliver with actually very little work from you. So nice sunny position, well drained soil. Prune it in late February time, so early spring. Just get rid of any dead, diseased, or damaged stems and throughout the summer months, because it will flower from May all the way through to October, maybe even November, just keep dead heading so as the roses grow over, keep taking them off and you’ll get many, many more, potentially hundreds in a season.
“And I always say with a rose, it’s such a great investment. Roses are long lived. This could be in your garden for years, if not decades. So it’s called, ‘You Are My Sunshine’.”
