Unpack your plug plants straight away and give them a little drink of water if the compost feels dry. Pop them somewhere bright and frost-free until you’re ready to plant.

For baskets, containers, or troughs, use fresh multi-purpose compost with good drainage. Space plugs evenly, allowing room for growth. If planting in beds, enrich the soil with compost first.

Keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. Baskets may need watering more often, especially in dry autumn spells.
