Plant of the Month – February 2026

Dahlia ‘Rebecca’s World’

Welcome to February! This the month in the garden when days are stretching out and those plans for summer colour begin to take shape. If you are looking for something truly different to anchor those plans, then Dahlia ‘Rebecca’s World’ is an absolute must.

Our pick for February’s Plant of the Month is unpredictable in the best possible way! One plant, yet the flowers decide for themselves what colour they want to be. Deep wine red, soft blush white, or a dramatic mix of both, often all on the same plant. It feels like getting several varieties rolled into one, and that sense of surprise never wears off.

Planted now and grown on ready for summer, this dahlia brings drama, conversation, and cutting garden glamour from late summer right through into autumn. It is bold, generous, and wonderfully easy to grow, making it perfect for both newcomers and seasoned gardeners looking for something a little bit special.

Why Dahlia ‘Rebecca’s World’ Is A Must Grow For Late Summer Colour

What really sets ‘Rebecca’s World’ apart is its remarkable colour variation. Each bloom is a surprise. Some open in rich, velvety red, others in creamy white flushed with pink, and many show a mix of both colours on the same flower.

From August through to October, the plant produces a steady stream of large, eye-catching blooms held proudly above dark green foliage. It performs just as well in large patio pots as it does in the border, making it ideal for gardens of all sizes. The flowers are excellent for cutting too, lasting well in a vase.

Despite its exotic looks, this dahlia is refreshingly straightforward to grow. Give it sun, decent soil, and regular watering, and it will reward you handsomely. Lift and store the tubers over winter, and you can enjoy the same unpredictable show year after year.

For gardeners who love bold colour, late-season impact, and summer garden theatre, ‘Rebecca’s World’ really is the ultimate choice.

You’ve Purchased Dahlia Tubers, Here’s How To Plant And Care For Them
  • On arrival: If planting straight away is not possible, store them somewhere cool, dry, and frost free
  • Planting in the ground: Plant tubers in spring once frost risk has passed, about 10 to 15cm deep with the growing eye facing upwards. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and water in well
  • Planting in pots: Use a large container with good drainage and quality compost. One tuber per pot works best, giving plants space to develop strong growth
  • Watering and feeding: Water regularly once growth starts, especially in dry weather. Feed every couple of weeks through summer with a high-potash fertiliser to boost flowering
  • Pruning and support: Pinch out early shoots to encourage bushier plants and more flowers. Taller stems may benefit from light staking
  • Winter care: After the first frost blackens the foliage, lift tubers, dry them off, and store somewhere cool and frost free ready to replant next year
