Product Information

Perfect for framing the front of beds and borders, this vibrant Salvia comprises of a mass of upright stems that are smothered in tiny violet blue to purple flowers throughout the summer.

Not only does it make an eye-catching addition to edges, beds, and borders but it will also stand to attention in pots and containers and, when crushed, gives a beautiful aromatic scent.

Easy to grow and very drought tolerant they just need regular watering to keep them moist and encourage repeat flowering all summer long. We would also recommend you remove faded flowers to extend the blooming period.

Compact and forming clumps, Salvia 'Edula Blue' will not only add colour to your garden but will attract bees and butterflies and bring your garden to life with useful, pollinating insects.

Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to pot on or plant out.

Top Tips

Lack of water will cause lower leaves to drop. If this happens a quick haircut removing the upper third of growth is all that is needed along with regular watering and plants will bush right up.

Care Information

  • Salvias grow best in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, avoid excessively exposed areas and waterlogged soils.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots - if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.
