Product Information

A beautiful, small-flowered, hardy perennial plant, which thrives in cool, shaded places which are often difficult to find plants for.

Producing stunning and unique star-shaped flowers of cornflower blue edged in a pale lilac, each with a bright white central eye. Looking like a two-tone forget-me-not, the blooms of  'Starry Eyes' are produced above a mound of heart-shaped, evergreen leaves.

A really delightful and unusual little perennial which is also known as Navelwort, Omphalodes forms small, low clumps about a foot across, flowering year after year in April and bringing early spring colour with the daffodils.

Easy to grow, and requires little maintenance once established, you'll receive an established plant in a 9cm pot. A real little gem, and not often sold.

What Is Supplied

Item 560573 supplied as:
Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting out. Grows to approx 15cm (6in) high x 30cm (12in) wide.

Top Tips

Plants prefer a slightly acidic soil and appreciate a mulch of leaf mould or composted pine needles. Apart from dividing when conjested, plants can be left where they are as they dislike disturbance.

Care Information

  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the root ball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the root ball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.
  • After flowering, plants can be cut right back to tidy them up and encourage growth of new leaves.
