Hellebores are robust, herbaceous perennial garden plants with nodding flowers from late winter - perfect for brightening up shady areas in your garden when winter is at its worst.
Helleborus x 'Tutu' (PBR) has glossy, mid-green leaves and striking pink flowers from which it gets its name - the fabulous dark pink-red, semi-double centred blooms resemble little ballerina skirts, bejewelled with yellow stamens.
Ideal in a shady woodland-style garden, this fully hardy beauty will liven up any spot with its flowers which appear from late winter, contrasting wonderfully with glistening snowdrops.
Also a great plant to have in the garden to attract in pollinators, 'Tutu' will be a welcome source of food for any insect woken from their winter slumbers - so you'll be doing your local wildlife a favour too.
Hellebores will tolerate a wide range of conditions, but do best in fertile, moisture-retentive, humus-rich but well-drained soil so plant in dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds and 'Tutu' will be perfectly happy.
Supplied as 2x 3L pots, ready for planting out.
Hellebores prefer to grow in rich, well-drained soil in dappled shade. Avoid planting in very dry or waterlogged soil. Provide shelter from strong, cold winds.
Water during dry spells and mulch annually with leaf mould, chipped bark or other organic matter in autumn.
Where growth is unsatisfactory, apply a general-purpose fertiliser, such as fish, blood & bone, in spring at 50-70g per square metre (1½-2 oz per square yard).
Container grown specimens can be fed with balanced liquid fertiliser, or with a high potassium fertiliser such as tomato feed, to encourage blooms.
