Product Information

Have you ever dreamt of picking fresh apples from your garden, but simply don't have the space? Well, our fabulous Apple 'Sun Red' (R) may make your dreams finally come true.

Produced specifically to meet the needs of those gardeners with less space to play with, this variety offers excellent yields of gorgeous deep red-skinned, juicy early apples, perfect to pick straight from the tree.

The beauty of these well-branched trees is you get a mini-tree, not just a straight up column, so you get plenty of fruit from the same space. Apple 'Sun Red' blossoms in April and is self-fertile, so you will get good crops even without a second nearby variety.

Harvest the juicy red fruits in September and October, then either eat soon after picking, or store for a few weeks as you would any supermarket fruits, in a cool, dark space, such as the garage.

Grow your patio fruit tree in a large pot, so it can easily be moved around with your garden furniture, while it can even come along with you should you ever move home!

Supplied as a two-year-old grafted bare root tree, around 40-50cm tall, ready for planting.

What Is Supplied

Item 300094 supplied as:
1 x Bare Root

Top Tips

  • Keep well watered, and if growing in a pot, use a good quality, soil-based compost.
  • Add Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi to the roots when planting to help establish your tree more quickly.
  • Place your tree in a sunny position for the best crops - potted plants can easily be moved around the patio to 'chase the sun'!

Care Information

  • Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as Blood, Fish and Bone, in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture.
  • Water regularly, and don't let the soil dry out if planted in pots.
  • Established trees don't require radical pruning - just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches in late winter. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other.
